When the spire of Paris' Notre Dame cathedral burned down a few days ago, there was an outpouring of grief around the world. In an announcement for Binance Charity's campaign, it was described as a "great moment of loss for culture, arts, and history shared by all humankind".
In response to this, funds are now being raised from people in order to contribute to the historic monument being rebuilt, after a call for donations from the French president Emmanuel Macron. Binance Charity's campaign is the first to accept donations exclusively in Bitcoin (BTC), demonstrating the crypto community's commitment to culture in society.
According to the announcement, Binance Charity is "a pioneer of using blockchain for social good, BCF launched a crypto-fundraising channel. We call on our colleagues in the crypto space to show your support for our campaign to #cryptorebuildNotreDame. The collected funds will be allocated to corresponding French entities responsible for restoration work".
So far, 1.7 BTC has been donated, worth around $7650 based on current prices.
